Obituary for Steven Bryant

Steven Thomas Bryant 1960-2023, Age 63, of the Town of Rock, Marshfield, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, May 22, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Spencer. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 175 of Loyal. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Sunday from 3 PM to 6 PM and again on Monday from 10 AM until time of services. The honor of pallbearer belongs to his godsons, Taylor Bryant and Trenton Bryant and his brothers, Joe, Edwin and Richard Bryant.

Steven was born on April 2, 1960, in Fort Riley, Kansas to James and Rae Joanne (Wolff) Bryant. He was a graduate of Pittsville High School, Class of 1978. He wanted to see the world, so he joined the United States Army in 1984, completing his basic training in Fort Sill, OK and was deployed to Germany before returning to Lawton, OK. He then moved to Houston, TX where he joined the National Guard then to Conroe, TX before coming back to Wisconsin. He was honorably discharged in April of 1990.

On November 12, 1986, he was united in marriage to Jane Weis at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshfield. While their marriage didn’t last, their friendship and love for each other is eternal.

He was well-educated and dedicated to self-improvement. He attended Chippewa Valley Technical College in 1997 for Insurance Law and Ethics; Lakeland University for Marketing and Business Administration; and Mid-State Technical College where he graduated in 2011 for BioRefinery and BioFuel Technology and 2012 for Renewable Energy Specialist. Over the years, he was employed at Weyerhaeuser, Foreign Automotive, Dale Decker Surveyor for Wood County, G & D Wood Products and most recently Reigel Plumbing just to name a few.

There was a lot that he enjoyed in his life. He loved to travel anywhere and everywhere. Some may remember his CB Handle – Starbuck. He loved to cook, always experimenting with interesting dishes, and baking, especially elaborate birthday cakes for his daughters. He had a love of photography and old cars. He loved being outdoors. He enjoyed going to the Iola Car Show. He loved music, going out and singing karaoke and dancing, and having a great time. He lived his life his way and enjoyed every minute of it.

He is lovingly survived by his children, Amanda (Jason) Koopman of Loyal, Heather Prust of Medford, Elisha (James) Weinfurtner of Loyal and Dakota Knetter of Marshfield; his grandchildren, Jane, Rebecca, Mitchell, Arianna, Brinley, Autumn, Sophie and Thomas; his mother, Rae Joanne Bryant of Pittsville; and his siblings, Theresa (Roger) Werstovshek of Loyal, Joe (Laurie LaSee) Bryant of Stratford, Peggy (Bryan) Hoffarth of Granton, Edwin (Michelle) Bryant of Medford, Mary (Corey) Kurz of Pittsville, Sally (Eric Thums) Bryant of Arbor Vitae, Richard Bryant of Antigo and Jane (Matt) Huber of Vesper; his foster brother, Pat Schulist and his ex-wife, Jane Weis of Marshfield. He is further survived by his special friend, Tam Kurkowski along with many, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, James Bryant; his paternal grandparents, Ernest and Madeline Bryant and his maternal grandparents, Otto and Rozella Wolff and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
