Steven Robert Uthmeier

Steven Robert Uthmeier took his last breath on July 20, 2023, while being lovingly cared for by his family. He succumbed to metastatic cancer of unknown origin.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, where a gathering for family and friends will be from 11:00 am until service time. Deacon Ray Draeger will officiate.  The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes.

He was born in Marshfield, WI on April 9, 1954, to parents Robert and Gladys Uthmeier. Steve attended the School District of Marshfield and graduated in 1972. He went on to attend technical college to earn a degree in Biomedical Technology. He worked for Art Craft and then Saint Joseph’s Hospital for many years where he developed long-term friendships. Steve volunteered for the police auxiliary, and the Hewitt recreation department and fire department. Steve also served the Hewitt community as the village trustee. Steve loved amateur radio and taught classes at Mid-State Technical College. He was married in Marshfield, WI to Cheryl Genett on May 11, 1979. Steve and Cheryl celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary this year.

Steve loved to travel. His most recent trip was an Alaskan Cruise. You could find him having a cold one at Sceeter and Otis’ or sitting on his deck with his adored cats, Gracie and Charlie. Many would see him walking daily or mowing his lawn. An avid fan of the Brewers and Packers, he enjoyed attending many games over the years. In his younger years he played softball, volleyball, and enjoyed many neighborhood Packer parties.

Steve enjoyed spending time with family, and is survived by his wife, Cheryl and his daughters, Tracy Uthmeier, Michele (Nate) Lynch, Whitney Uthmeier, and his grandchildren Cassie, Kiley, Mallory, Colin, and Oliver. He is also survived by his siblings, Carol (Tom) Knauf, Donald (Lori) Uthmeier, and Patricia (Michael) Schumitsch. He is further survived by in-laws (Cheryl’s siblings), Linda (Jim) Curtin, Mike (Deb) Genett, and Mary Jo Gagliano and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joan Uthmeier-Vogel.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Marshfield Clinic Health System – the Physicians, NPs, RNs, CNAs, EVS and everyone else who cared for Steve.                   Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com
