Obituary for Thomas Stack

Thomas E. Stack, 82, Stratford, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 at House of the Dove, Marshfield, Wisconsin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 30, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Sengole Vethanayagam will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County and serving as pallbearers will be Jordan Becker, Ryan Becker, Greg Schoenfuss, Jason Stack, Todd Schoenherr and Jimmy Pautzke. Sauter/Rembs Funeral is assisting the family.

Thomas was born on March 26, 1942 in Stratford to the late Anthony “Tony” and Cherubim “Carrie” (Fry) Stack. He was united in marriage to Mary Dahlke, daughter of the late Bernard and Elizabeth Dahlke, on September 18, 1965 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgar.

Upon graduating from Stratford High School in 1960, he served in the United States Navy on the USS Independence. After his discharge from the Navy in 1962, Tom worked at the Ford garage in Stratford for a short time before going to work at Klemme Sales Chevrolet in 1963, as an auto body technician and wrecker driver. He eventually bought the dealership from the Klemme’s after they retired and continued working there, forty hours a week, up until the time of his death.

He enjoyed going to work, helping others, carpentry, hunting, playing cards, riding his Gator in the woods, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. In his younger years he was a member of the Stratford Fire Department serving as an EMT and firefighter. He was recognized as one of Stratford’s Finest. Tom was a member of the board of directors at Stratford State Bank for many years. He was also a board member for the Village of Stratford and was an integral part of purchasing the land for the industrial park. For many summers he was part of the team to organize the Stratford Heritage Days parades.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Mary; son, Mike (Irene) Stack; daughter, Wendy (Mike) Becker; grandchildren: Bobbie Jo (Jordan) Bunge and Kendra, Kylee (Kyle Krasselt), Jordan, and Ryan Becker; great grandchildren: Sophia and Zoey Bunge, MaryJean “MJ” Becker and baby Krasselt on the way.

He is further survived by his two sisters: Frances Grosskreutz and Patricia (Jim) Pautzke; one brother: Jerome (Mary) Stack; brothers and sisters-in-laws: Barb (Romie) Schoenfuss, Jeanette Schoenherr, Marie Dahlke and Tom Steiner.

Besides his parents and in-laws, Tom was preceded in death by two brothers: William and Leonard Stack; three sisters and their husbands: Marion (Reiny) Draeger, Joan (Leo) Manthey and Elaine (Elroy) Pilgrim; brothers and sisters-in-laws; Darrell Grosskreutz, Bernie Dahlke, Dorothy (Frank) Betzner, Verjean Steiner and Ted Schoenherr.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs at House of the Dove and   Marshfield Medical Center, 7 North, for their loving care and support during his time with them.
