Twyla Marie Kroening, 89, Stratford, passed away with family at her side on Monday, November 4, 2020, at her home.
Due to COVID, a Mass of Christian Burial for immediate family only will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes.com. Rev. Sengole Vethanayagam will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the Town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County, and serving as pallbearers will be a grandson, Jeremy Kroening, and great-grandsons, Lukas Long, Ethan Nagel, Alec Nagel, Dylan Hollatz, and Derek Grossman and honorary pallbearers will be Warren Dorzak and Cole Ebner. Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Twyla was born on December 13, 1930, in Greenwood to Roy and Palma (Stensvold) Thorson, Sr. She attended schools in Greenwood, Colby and was a graduate of Marshfield Senior High School.
She was united in marriage to Jerome G. Kroening, Sr. on April 20, 1949, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford. He died on January 22, 1992.
Twyla was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield for over 30 years until her retirement in 1993. Her faith and love for Jesus was very important to her. She was very active in her church and was a member of the Lady Knights. Her love for her husband never waned even after his passing and she looked forward to being reunited with him. In addition to her love for God and her husband, she had a great love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, especially cardinals, her rock garden, flower beds, gardening, and playing cards, puzzles, and puzzle books.
She is survived by her children, Charlene Kroening of Stratford, David (Linda) Kroening of Marshfield, Jerome (Kathleen Bass) Kroening, Jr. of Mosinee, Steven Kroening of Minocqua, and Mark (Debbie) Kroening of Arpin. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by siblings, Bev Schirpke of Germantown, Muriel Thorson of Menomonee Falls, Lynn (Harold “Butch”) Kuchenbeiser of Surprise, AZ, Roy (Rosita “Seedy”) Thorson, Jr. of Wausau, and Ken (Nancy) Thorson of Sun City, AZ and in-laws from her husbands family, Marcella Sitko of Mosinee, Isabelle Kroening of Marshfield, and Leo Geiger of Loyal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Jerome, a granddaughter, Lori Hollatz, two great-granddaughters, Angel and Hope Kroening, three sisters, a brother, four brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Peg (Don) Denk, Gloria (John) Bast, Berne (Ralph) Anderson, Larry (Carol) Thorson and Andrew Schirpke, and in-laws from her husbands family, Margaret Kroening, Marie (Clarence) Wurl, Irene (John) Beyer, Helen (Jim) Dennee, Dorothy Geiger, Loretta (Felix) Masanz, Agnes (Orville) Landwehr, Bernard Kroening, Melvin Kroening, and Leon Kroening.
Memorials may be designated in her name to St. Joseph’s Parochial School, Stratford, Heartland Hospice, or Soup or Socks Food Pantry and Clothes Closet, Marshfield.
