Violet A. Leonard, 94, Marshfield, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Serenity Living, Marshfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Chris Schwantes will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chris, Josh, Derek, Ryan, Justin, and Tyler. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Burial will take place at Brooklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Town of Richfield, Wood County on June 13, 2025 followed by a celebration of life at Rembs Celebration Center on June 14, 2025.
Violet was born on November 4, 1930 in the Town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County to Rhinehardt and Mildred (Shelly) Gripentrog. She graduated from Marshfield Senior High School. On August 27, 1949, she was united in marriage to Joseph Rhodes. He passed away in April of 1975. She later married Henry J. Leonard on June 20, 1986. He passed away on January 25, 2007.
Violet worked for a short time at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory, but most of her life she worked as a nursing assistant at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield Living Center, and doing home health care.
Violet enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, reading, and playing cards and pool. She was also a proud member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Brothertown Indian Nation.
She is survived by her children, Edward (Betty) Rhodes of Marshfield, Gerald (Pam) Rhodes of Clintonville, Millie (Ken) Engel of Rice Lake, Kris Leitner of Allendale, Mich., Dale (Diane) Rhodes of Cross Plains; daughter-in-law, Caroline Rhodes of Marshfield; stepchildren, David (Dorothy) Leonard of Marshfield, Dawn (Jim) Strack of Marshfield, Daniel Leonard of Marshfield, Richard (Cathy) Leonard of St. Louis, Mo., Diane (Jim) Zimmermann of Marshfield, Dean Leonard of Tomah, Dixie (Randy) Adamski of Marshfield, Darla (Gina) Leonard of Marshfield and Dennis (Pam) Leonard of Marshfield; 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 22 step grandchildren, and 33 step great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by brothers, Lyle (Pam) and Gary Gripentrog, and sisters, La Von Schmoll, Mary Jo Gripentrog, and Debra La Porte, and sisters-in-law, Bea Gripentrog and Bonnie Griepentrog. She is also survived by many extended families and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rhinehardt and Mildred, husbands, Joseph Rhodes and Henry Leonard, son, Randall Rhodes, son in law, Kevin Leitner, stepson, Darwin Leonard, brothers, Robert, James, Dale, and Jon Gripentrog, and sisters, Beth Breu, Rachel Bigelow, Karen Poiner, and Francis Smith.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brothertown Indian Nation.
