Obituary for Walter Fredette

Walter L. Fredette, 95, Vesper, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at House of the Dove, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home, Pittsville, where the visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. Father Nathan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joachim Cemetery, Pittsville, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 153 of Pittsville. Luncheon and a celebration of life will follow at the American Legion Hall, Pittsville.

Walter was born on July 23, 1926 in Iron Mountain, MI, to Albert and Vivian (Blatchford) Fredette. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946 in which he served as a Gunner on the SS George H. Himes and the SS Berliner in the South Pacific. Walter then enlisted in the Navy reserves, serving from 1946 until 1954.  He married Mary A. Nevinski on September 8, 1962 at St. James Catholic Church in Wausau.

Walter was employed at Consolidated Papers in Wisconsin Rapids for 40 years until his retirement. He enjoyed all outdoor activities from fishing, hunting, gardening, farming and traveling adventures. Walter had the kindest soul and loved tending to all his animals throughout the years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, his children, Paul Fredette of Ventura, CA and Amy (Tom Walters) Fredette of Kodiak Island, AK. He is also survived by a brother Albert “Joe” (Doris) Fredette of Pittsville and sisters-in-law, Betty Fredette of Pittsville, Janis Fredette of Wild Rose and Frances Siemon of Schofield and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Gary, Glenn and Richard “Dick” Fredette, a sister, Doris Johnson and stepsister, Barbara Schrum.
