Bill Haas Obituary

TOWN OF SIGEL, WI (OnFocus) – William “Bill” Haas, 89, passed away peacefully at home on September 13, 2023, with the wonderful care of his family and Compassus Hospice.

He was born May 13, 1934, to Bernard and Ada (Mueller) Haas in the Town of Sigel.

He joined the Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957.

Bill married Judy (Greeneway) on October 29, 1960, often stating that “he was still on his honeymoon” after nearly 63 years.

He worked for Tesser Cabinet Company from the age of 14 until starting Haas Builder’s Supply in 1973. After retirement, he enjoyed many years of plowing snow and mowing roads for the Town of Sigel.

Bill had a lifelong passion for faith, family, carpentry, and local history. In retirement, Bill devoted his time to many hobbies, most famously “Grandpa’s Village,” a collection of buildings that serve as a tribute to local history. In 2018, Bill constructed a to-scale model of Marshfield’s famous “World’s Largest Round Barn” (see it here) which has been displayed throughout the area.

Bill will be remembered for all the love and wisdom he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them, and his playful spirit, quick wit, and passion for life…and his “beautiful” happy birthday singing… will be missed dearly.

Bill is survived by his wife, Judy, and their three children: Jere (Deb) Haas, Susan (Jeff) Speth, and Steve (Linda) Haas; grandchildren: Josh (Alyssa) Haas, Amy (Justin) Werner, Breanna (Brett) Butler, Dana Speth, Kaylin Speth, David (Savanah) Haas, and Luke (Anna) Haas; and great-grandchildren: Leah, Jacob, Parker, Harvey, and Ada.

He is further survived by brother James “Tuzz” (Marta) and sister Marilyn (Rich) Cournoyer, and sisters-in-law Mary Haas and Marcia Greeneway, and brothers-in-law Howard Greeneway and Roger Greeneway, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by four brothers Marvin “Hans” (Pat), Raymond “Nooks” (Phyllis), Ronnie, and Gary “Putz,” and sister-in-law Mary Greeneway.

A visitation will take place at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids (2201 S Chestnut St) on Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 3:00 – 7:00pm.

The funeral service will take place at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids (2011 10th Street) on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 10:30am, with visitation starting at 9:00am.

Committal to follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Vesper.

Editor’s Note: I love you, grandpa!
