Gisele Berningaus, Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Auburndale.
Bill was born on June 2, 1926 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield to Ulrich and Ella (Haselberger) Schneider. Bill attended Hillside School in Auburndale and St. Michael’s School in Hewitt. He worked on the family farm until enlisting in the Navy in December 1950, where he served as a 3rd class Boatswain mate on the USS Norris 859 during the Korean War.
Bill met his wife, Barbara Barker, at a USO dance in Boston, where they later married on June 26, 1954. They were married for almost 55 years. Following his honorable discharge in October 1954, they moved to Auburndale to start their family. Bill worked for Marshfield Oil Company for several years before starting his 33 year career as a mail carrier for the Auburndale Post Office. Upon retirement he worked part-time at Figi’s in Marshfield.
Bill ran trapping lines around the Auburndale area and served as President of the Wisconsin Trappers Association for 4 years. He regularly attended local polka band performances and shared his love of polka music with others whenever he had the chance. Bill helped create and maintain the name of the area north of Auburndale known by locals as “Owl City”. Bill was an avid Brewers fan and enjoyed listening to Bob Uecker regularly. Bill had a tender heart and never turned away the stray cats and dogs that turned up on his land.
Bill is survived by 3 daughters, Norma (Mike) Sabel, Auburndale; Christine (Jerry) Weber and Lisa (Mike) Behling, all of Marshfield. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Thomas Sabel, Luke Behling, Jillian (Nate) Peterson and Noah Behling. He is further survived by his brother Donald (Linda) Schneider, Marshfield.
He was predeceased by his wife Barbara, brother Robert, and his parents.
