A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hewitt, with Rev. Murali Anand Rayappan and Rev. Barry Saylor officiating. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and on Saturday from 10:00 am until service time at St. Michal’s Catholic Church.

William was born on October 20, 1947, in Marshfield, to Melvin F. and Eleanor C. (Spatz) Severt and was a 1966 graduate of Columbus High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam. He married Elizabeth J. “Betty” Weis on September 28, 1968, in Fort Campbell, KT.

Before his military service, Bill was employed at Consolidated Dairy, now Foremost Dairy in Marshfield. After his honorable discharge he and his mother opened Severt’s Restaurant, where Bill was known for his famous chicken dumpling soup and wedding dumplings. Bill and his family successfully ran the restaurant for 33 years. After the business closed, he worked various jobs including working for his good friend Gary at Farm Way Transport.

During his retirement Bill enjoyed spending time at the camper and pontoon rides, (even though he had a fear of swimming) and making specialty omelets at the camper for the family. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially mowing the lawn.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty, and their daughters, Cindy (Dennis) Schneider, Kris (Mark) Tesmer, and Janelle (Ben) Rucker, all of Marshfield. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Michaela (Conrad) Wood, Dylan (Aubrey) Larsen, Derrick, Madilynn and Makenzie Tesmer, and Caleb, Nathan, and Hailey Rucker and three great grandchildren, Trenton Wood, Harper Wood and Kaden Larsen. He is further survived by siblings, LeAnn Fitzgerald, Linda Kundinger (Jim Mann), Fred (Jana) Severt, Paul (Tracy) Severt, and Pete (Dawn) Severt, a sister-in-law, Kay Severt, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Lewis Anderson, a brother, Melvin A. Severt, brothers-in-law, John Kundinger, and Ralph Fitzgerald, and a niece, Eleanor “Ellie.”

The family gives a special shout out to the Marshfield Medical Center I.C.U. nurses for their special care.

A memorial will be designated at a later date.
