WOOD COUNTY, WI (OnFocus) – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved death that occurred on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, in the Township of Grand Rapids.
At approximately 11:40 p.m., a Township of Grand Rapids police officer responded to a welfare check at a residence in the 7500 block of Kellner Road. Upon arrival, the officer encountered an uncooperative female. Officers from the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department and Wood County Sheriff’s Office were called to assist.
The female was taken into custody but became unresponsive shortly afterward. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. No firearms were discharged during the incident.
Per standard procedure, the involved officers have been placed on administrative duty. All officers present were equipped with body cameras, and footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
DCI is leading the investigation with assistance from a DCI Crime Response Specialist. All involved officers are fully cooperating. Evidence is being reviewed, and the investigative findings will be submitted to the Wood County District Attorney’s Office upon completion.
