TOWN OF MOSINEE, WI (OnFocus) – The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved critical incident in the City of Mosinee that occurred during the early morning of Friday, January 19, 2024.
At approximately 2:16 a.m., a Mosinee Police Officer was conducting a welfare check on a person lying on the sidewalk near 7th Street and Main Street in the City of Mosinee. During the investigation, the Mosinee Police Officer was stabbed by the individual, a 41-year-old male. The Mosinee Police Officer was able to call for emergency backup. When other officers arrived, the male party did not comply with commands. A Marathon County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was deployed, and the party was taken into custody.
The Mosinee Police Officer and the male party received immediate medical treatment at the scene. The Mosinee Police Officer was transported to a local hospital and has since been released. The suspect is in custody and currently hospitalized, being treated for non-life-threatening injuries received during the K-9 deployment. No other law enforcement officers or K-9s were injured during the incident.
The Mosinee Police Department, Marathon County Sheriff’s Office, Kronenwetter Police Department, Everest Metropolitan Police Department, Rothschild Police Department, Wausau Police Department, Mosinee EMS, Riverside EMS, and SAFER EMS responded to assist.
The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. Investigators will continue to review the evidence, determine the facts of the incident, and turn over all investigative reports to the Marathon County District Attorney when the investigation concludes.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time.
