Ohio Senate Bill Seeks to Reduce Educator Shortage: Allow Unlicensed Teachers in Classrooms
A recent Ohio Senate bill is seeking to reduce educator shortage by giving its schools flexibility to allow unlicensed people to become teachers if they at least hold a master’s degree and pass a subject-area examBut will this actually help the educator shortage?
Mimosa Jones Tunney, the founder & president of a K-6 program that has successfully solved America’s education issues by revolutionizing education for children, parents and educators.
Here is what she initially had to say about Ohio’s proposed bill:
“First and foremost, it’s a little bit of a double-edged sword. I don’t think we want to look at retaining or trying to get more teachers in the classroom by lowering the bar. The problem is their environment, it’s prison-like, they have no educator culture, they don’t feel like they are playing on the same team. For all those reasons, they are working in a non-curriculum environment, so there is no path that is child-first in schools. If you want to talk about retention, you need to build a new American school. You need to step into the 21st century with how you are building schools.
The second piece is teacher certification is great, but I have to tell you there are many teachers that come to us that did not go through classroom management when they were studying to become teachers. They weren’t instructed in Innovative or Advanced Pedagogical Science because teachers’ colleges are at the same antediluvian level as our current traditional education system.
So, we’re pumping out more of the same. If you want to retain teachers, give them a better environment and a better curriculum. If you want to hire more teachers make sure that you’re hiring teachers who are skilled in innovative pedagogical science.”

McClure and Dr. Maria Montessori to reform American education, Tunney recognized the education system had been untouched for nearly 100 years and there was a dire need for innovation.
