MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – June 30 marks the one year anniversary of our outdoors expert and author of the “Thankful Outdoors” column Scott Hopperdietzel writing for us. Scott started amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and in a time when people were relegated to their homes for extreme amounts of time, Scott helped give those people a way to experience the outdoors vicariously through his adventures.
From Scott:
“Remembering Boone was the writing that touched me the most. It will be one of the hardest things that I ever wrote in my life. To this day I still go back to read that one and can’t help but shed a tear. He is a partner that is missed dearly!
“Having the opportunity to share my outdoor adventures with people has been a very humble experience. I have been surprised by the number of people that have stopped to talk to me about a story or asked a family member about writing I shared. Thankful Outdoors has given me the opportunity to share with others that there is more to hunting and fishing than just filling tags or limits. It shows bonds with friends and family, traditions, the creation of memories, and the beauty that can be seen by nature. Sometimes it even allows me to share a little bit of education on pointers or new things to try.
“The biggest accomplishment of Thankful Outdoors will be the day when someone is touched to go out and enjoy the outdoors. Push themselves outside their comfort zone and just appreciate something about nature that surrounds them every day. When that happens, it’s a good day!
“Some of my greatest conversations take place in the field with others that do not share in the same hobby as I do, but when I can sit and talk to an absolute stranger for 15 minutes and we share stories about watching animals, sunrise, sunsets are we really that far off from having more in common than what we both can sometimes admit?”
We at OnFocus appreciate Scott’s weekly contributions and the joy he has brought our readers!
