OnFocus Athlete of the Week Nominees, Week of January 3 – January 9
- Makenna Guden, Edgar Girls Basketball – Athletes dream of breaking a school record, and Guden did just that. Twice, in one week. She began the week by scoring 28 points as Edgar downed Marathon 52-39, and broke the Edgar Girls career scoring mark in the process. Guden then scored 17 points in the Wildcats’ 60-43 win over Athens, becoming the school’s top scorer in basketball history.
- Richard Streveler, Colby Boys Basketball – Streveler was instrumental in two wins for the Hornets this week. The guard had 10 assists and 12 points, making 2 of 3 from long range in Colby’s 71-31 win over Thorp. In the Hornets’ 77-69 win over Ashland, Streveler scored 20 points, coupled with 7 steals and 7 rebounds, and made 11 of 13 free throws.
- Megan Clary, Wisconsin Rapids Girls Basketball – After a long layoff, Rapids returned to the court and picked up a pair of wins to improve to 7-3. Clary had 19 points in Rapids’ 57-50 win over Marshfield on Friday, and then had 27 points in Saturday’s 69-43 win against Merrill.
- Hunter Wright, Auburndale Boys Basketball – Wright led the charge for the Eagles this week as they picked up two more wins. He had 28 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists in Auburndale’s 73-55 win over Chequamegon, and scored 21 points to go with 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals in the Eagles 73-43 win over Assumption.
- Breanna Ackley, Stratford Boys Basketball; Gavin Drexler/Jackson Ormond, Stratford Wrestling – Three Tigers, each with top performances. Ackley poured in 30 points in limited action as Stratford downed Abbotsford, 55-43. Drexler and Ormond dominated opponents in Stratford’s wrestling quad, each picking up three pins.
