OnFocus Football Playoffs Recap: Level 1 Surprises, Statement Wins

Division 1

Surprises

  • #8 Chippewa Falls knocks off #1 Hudson 21-14. Certainly a shocker. Chi-Hi’s reward? Travel to face #4 Neenah in Level 2, a team that put up 54 points on D.C. Everest in Level 1 and has a win over powerhouse Kimberly this season.
  • Not really a surprise, but Stevens Point fought for its playoff life against VFA rival Wausau West and escaped with a 32-21 win. Scoring a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns allowed SPASH to advance. Next up: a trip to #2 Kimberly. Fair to say there will be a few thousand fans at the battle!
  • #8 De Pere knocks off #1 Milwaukee Marshall Co-op, 50-8 This probably has more to do with a flawed playoff seeding system that MM as the top seed. Solutions exist to prevent poor seeding, something this matchup points to.

No shocker

  • #5 Fond du Lac dumps #4 Milwaukee Pulaski Co-0p, 49-0. Same thing as above, poor seeding process led to this blowout.
  • #1 Muskego blows out #8 Milwaukee Audubon, 55-0. Score could have easily been in the triple digits. Muskego is going to be a tough out for anyone.
  • #2 Franklin blows out Kenosha Bradford. Franklin and Muskego loom in Level 3….

Division 2

Surprises

  • #8 Germantown beats #1 Milwaukee King. Hats off to Germantown for the upset, but is it really an upset??
  • #6 Monona Grove defeats #3 Nicolet, 28-15. Not a big suprise, but it’s more of a suprise that Nicolet (NIK UH LAY) couldn’t even have the respect of its school being pronounced correctly on the playoff seeding announcement. Ouch.
  • #7 Hartford trims #2 Sun Prairie East, 31-28. Pretty tough bracket when Hartford was a #7.

Division 7

No real surprises….

No shocker

  • #2 Edgar shuts out #7 Glenwood City 36-0
  • #1 Potosi-Cassville gets 40-0 win over #8 Hillsboro

8-Player

  •  Gilman handled Newman Catholic, 49-20 in Level 1.
