#5 Natalie Decker, an Eagle River native, is on her way to becoming the next Danica Patrick. Decker says that her passion for racing began when she was a young child. Decker says that she got into stock car racing when she was 12. Natalie has big dreams to one day race in the Daytona 500 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

#4 A Marshfield nonprofit agency for victims of domestic violence will move into the former transitional shelter. Personal Development Center, Inc. (PDC) of Marshfield will purchase the facility from St. Vincent de Paul for $80,000. The building and current contents are being donated, according to Renee Schulz, Executive Director of PDC. The closing date is set for April 1, with current PDC programs moving into the facility May 1.
#3 Early Saturday morning, Marshfield Police Department removed a bear from a residential neighborhood in Marshfield that was caught in a live trap overnight. We called police to let them know he was sleeping in the storm sewer culvert.” Saturday morning the neighbors called the Marshfield Police Department to have them get the bear, which was in the trap.
#2 The brownstone building next to the Thomas House at 107 S. Central in downtown Marshfield was purchased and restored by optometrist Dr. Dean R. Fait, who opened Citihub Eyecare in mid-February. He hopes that his practice contributes to downtown growth and is excited to be onto another phase in his life.
And our number 1 story of the week:
#1 At 10 o’clock on Wednesday, March 14th, students quietly left their classrooms and gathered across Becker Road from Marshfield High School. For seventeen minutes, students lay on the ground in silence to commemorate the seventeen lives lost at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School during the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida. This peaceful “School Walk Out” demonstration was like many that have being taking place across the country in recent weeks. The focus of many students was not improving safety procedures but accessing other areas of student life including communication between administration and the student body.
