OnFocus Season Preview: Mosinee Indians Boys and Girls Wrestling

Coaching staff: Dylan Iczkowski (Co-Head Coach), Morgan Bethea (Co-Head Coach), Andy Mullins (Assistant Coach), Kyle Olund (Assistant Coach)

Coach Morgan Bethea has joined the team this year to help as we continue to grow as a program. She is an excellent role model for all of our athletes and brings a lot of knowledge following her career at UWSP. We are honored to have her in the room working with the wrestlers and it’s exciting to see the support from the school and community.

Key returners: Jackson Nechuta (Sr), George Ahles (Sr), Chris Strejc (Sr), Bruce Hintz (Sr), Cohen Iczkowski (So)

All five wrestlers have been really competitive in the conference the past few years and will be looking to be on top of the GNC this year. Jackson, George, Bruce, & Cohen were on the brink of qualifying for the state tournament last season, and have set themselves up to be in contention again. Chris has always been our work horse, willing to wrestle any opponent at any weight class, and we are looking forward to him turning a few heads this season.

Key newcomers: Jordan Feit (Fr), Payton Nechuta (Fr), Jaelyn Podeweltz (Fr), Shelby Chaney (Fr)

Jordan is our lone Freshman competing in the boys division this year, and we’re ready to see how he matches up in the 106lb weight class.
Payton, Jaelyn, & Shelby make up the roster for our Girls team. We are excited to continue growing girls wrestling in our school and it’s awesome that we have a core group of wrestlers to help build a team around.

Conference outlook:

GIven our numbers this year, or lack thereof, we are focusing on each individual performance of our wrestlers. We do not anticipate competing in the team standings or in each dual (in terms of team points), but we are looking to win a lot of individual matches throughout the season.

Keys to your success this season:

Our biggest key to success is staying healthy. Our wrestlers have all the right tools to compete, but we have to make sure our wrestlers stay physically & mentally strong throughout the season. If we are able to do that, I think we’ll be in a great spot at the end of February
