OnFocus Season Preview: Rosholt Hornets Softball

Coaching staff: Sam Johnson and Joey Wagester

Key returners: Two key returners for us this season are Gracie Flees and Kaylee Filtz, both of whom earned all-conference honors last year.

Gracie is a standout outfielder known for her determination and relentless effort to keep the ball in front of her. Her passion for the game shines through in both her defense and her batting, where she has been showing great promise in practice. We have high expectations for her at the plate this season.
Kaylee Filtz plays a vital role in our infield. While she previously held down second base, this year she will spend significant time at shortstop. Her speed on the bases makes her a constant threat, and we’re excited to challenge her this season and watch her game awareness continue to grow.

Key newcomers: A newcomer to our team this season is first baseman Sami Kaminski. Although this is her first year playing softball, you’d never know it by watching her. Sami is incredibly receptive to feedback and has been consistently working to develop her skills. It’s hard to believe this is her first season! Beyond her growth on the field, Sami is also a fantastic teammate. She brings a positive and encouraging presence, always pushing those around her to do their best. Her gentle yet motivating nature makes her a valuable addition to our team, and we are so excited to have her with us this season!

Conference outlook: Although we are missing a key player this season due to a torn ACL, our team remains determined and optimistic about our conference outlook. Our primary goal is to give it our all in every game, leaving everything on the field. As a team, we’ve dedicated ourselves to developing new pitchers, sharpening our fielding skills, and ensuring that nothing gets past us. We are excited to see it all come together this season.

Keys to your success this season: We know that teamwork is super important for our success this season. Our team has gotten really close, and we’re always helping each other improve. Everyone is working hard, and supporting one another, and we can’t wait to see it pay off on the field!
