OnFocus Team of the Week, September 25 to October 1
- Washburn Football / Mellen Football – The pair of teams set an 8-Player State Record with a combined 206 points(Washburn 114 Mellen 92) Friday afternoon/evening. The game took so long that it couldn’t even be finished: it was called with 2:15 left due to darkness.
- Ladysmith Football(nominated online) – Ladysmith shut out Rib/Lake Prentice 56-0 in Week 7, and has qualified for the WIAA Football Playoffs, the first time since 2014. Ladysmith is tied for second place in the Lakeland Conference Standings with a 4-1 record with Unity. The Lumberjacks end the season with games at Unity and at conference leader Grantsburg.
- Stevens Point Girls Tennis – The Panthers took the Wisconsin Valley Conference title Thursday, edging second-place Wausau West by one point.
- Wisconsin Rapids Football – Trailing 21-14 midway through the fourth quarter, Rapids came back with two big scores to earn a 24-21 win over first-place Marshfield. Evan Mathews snuck behind the Tigers’ defense for a 42-yard touchdown to tie the game, and with seconds remaining, Ashton Fischer drilled a 19-yard field goal. The win moved the Red Raiders into a tie with Marshfield and Wausau West atop the VFA with two weeks remaining in the season.
- Fond du Lac Football – The Cardinals headed into their Fox Valley Association game with unbeaten Kimberly with an upset on their mind, going into the game with a 2-2 FVA record, 4-2 overall. Fondy picked up a 31-21 win over Kimberly, a game they led 31-7 in the fourth quarter. Fondy has the perennial power’s number, racking up their third win over Kimberly in five years, half of the losses Kimberly has sustained during that time.
