Oregon Named Audiobook Capital Of The US
In a new data analysis, Oregon is the place where people love reading the most in the US, whereas Vermont is the place where people love physical books the most.
  • Oregon is the city where people tend to search for books, in all forms, the most
  • Audiobook demand in the US is almost double E-book demand and 8% higher than Physical books.
  • Vermont is listed as the number one location for physical book searches per person.
  • Vermont, Utah, and Washington are all named among the most prolific reading communities.
Despite common concerns that there has been an overall decrease in the rate of reading amongst the US population, a recent YouGov survey has shown that it is still a very common pastime, with 54% of all adults questioned having finished reading a book for pleasure in the last year, while 33% have read more than 5 books over the past year.
Audiobooks, in particular, have continued to see ongoing growth, with data released by the US Audio Publishers Association showing double-digit growth, year on year, over the past eleven years, even after the end of the “pandemic boom,” resulting in revenue exceeding £1.8 billion in 2022.
Our research also shows that Audiobook demand is 80% higher than E-book demand and 8% higher than physical book demand. Steve M a writing and literary expert from My Paper Writers had this to say:
“Reading has been growing in popularity again in recent years and audiobooks have been a primary factor in that growth. People who struggle to find time to read can now consume books on their commute or during a workout making it a lot easier to find time to read”
In an effort to better understand the reading habits of the public at large, the team at My Paper Writers carried out a study to look at the demand for different kinds of reading in every state in the US. These were the results:

Steve M from My Paper Writers also had the following to say:
“While the overall total searches seem to line up with the population centres of the country having the most readers when you break it down by per person, you can start to see some of the real reading capitals of the country starting to break out. In particular, Oregon, Vermont, and Utah seem to have the best-read populations in the nation”About My Paper Writers:
