Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) The Common Council will consider funding requests from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) at a special meeting tonight (8/29).

The requests are for the 2020 City budget. The total funding requests add up to $180,187 and are being submitted by the Palm Sunday Chorus, Marshfield Area Coalition for Youth (MACY), Marshfield Civic Band, Unified School District of Marshfield, North Wood County Historical Society, North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development, Marshfield Clinic Heath Systems, UW – Stevens Point/Marshfield Campus, and the Central Wisconsin State Fair Board.

The City grants funding to certain established organizations that are considered to provide a service that is beneficial to the community or enhances services already provided. A new City policy adopted in December required 501(c)(3) entities to submit a written request for funding, even if they had received funding in the past. Organizations requesting funds from the City cannot be affiliated with a political organization.

No action will be taken at the meeting. Representatives of the organizations will come forward to address the Council.

Requests range from $750 for the Palm Sunday Chorus to $75,000 for the Central Wisconsin State Fair.
