Blackhawks’ Gritty Playoff Run Ends at State, Capping Off a Memorable 25-Win Season
Green Bay, WI (OnFocus) – The Owen-Withee Blackhawks’ impressive postseason run came to an end in the WIAA Division 5 State Semifinals on Friday morning, as they fell to top-seeded Assumption 61-36 at the Resch Center. Despite the loss, the Blackhawks capped off a 25-5 season, proving their place among Wisconsin’s elite small-school programs.
Fighting to the Finish
Owen-Withee battled from the start, looking to keep pace with a relentless Assumption squad. Senior Kendall Weiler led the Blackhawks with 11 points, including an impressive 9-for-11 performance from the free-throw line, while Kayla Rasmussen contributed 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
The Blackhawks had success attacking the basket, knocking down 17-of-21 free throws (81%), but struggled from the field, hitting just 37.5% of their shots (9-of-24). They were able to string together runs in the second half, outscoring Assumption in free throws and improving their offensive efficiency.
Strong Defensive Effort
Defensively, Owen-Withee fought hard to slow down an aggressive Royals offense. Madi Mueller provided strong support inside, finishing with six points, six rebounds, and three assists, while Geneva Capetillo and Addie Hatlestad chipped in key defensive stops.
However, Assumption’s fast-paced attack proved difficult to contain. The Royals forced turnovers early, capitalizing on transition opportunities to build a 30-14 halftime lead. The Blackhawks made adjustments in the second half, holding Assumption to just 32.4% shooting, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
A Season to Remember
Despite the outcome, the Blackhawks leave the 2025 WIAA Girls State Tournament with plenty to be proud of. They fought through a grueling playoff stretch, securing key wins to reach the state semifinals for the first time in years. The senior leadership of Weiler, Rasmussen, and Petersen guided the team through an impressive season, setting a strong foundation for the program’s future.
Owen-Withee fans showed up in full force at the Resch Center, supporting the Blackhawks every step of the way. While the season ends here, the Blackhawks have plenty to celebrate—a deep playoff run, a 25-win season, and the experience of competing on the state’s biggest stage.
Congratulations to Owen-Withee on an outstanding season!
