Packers propose tush push ban – but what do Packers fans think of the play?

The NFL league meetings take place this Sunday and the “tush push” is one of the biggest talking points heading into the weekend.

Whether it’s due to player safety concerns or simply because Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles seemingly can’t be stopped when running the modified quarterback sneak, many teams seem to be against the play.

With this in mind, the team at Action Network wanted to identify which NFL fans are truly tired of the tush push, by analyzing online negative sentiment towards the play in each state which is home to an NFL team.

According to the data, Georgia is the state most hurt by Hurts as the negative sentiment towards the play, which is also known as the “brotherly shove”, was a whopping 98% when looking at online posts over the last 12 months.

When looking at Kansas & Missouri, the states had an online negative sentiment score of 95% towards the play.

This makes more sense when you consider the states are home to plenty of Kansas City Chiefs fans and the Chiefs fell victim to the tush push on the Eagles’ first score of Super Bowl LIX.

The ban of the tush push was formally proposed by the Green Bay Packers. The fact that the play has an online negative sentiment of 84% in Wisconsin suggests Packers fans are on the same page as their leadership regarding banning the play.

The negative sentiment towards the tush push for each state with an NFL team can be seen below.

Methodology

Using the social listening tool Brandwatch, we analyzed mentions of the “tush push” from the last 12 months in each state with an NFL team.

These states were then ranked from highest to lowest based on their negative sentiment* towards the play.

Data correct as of March 27th 2025.

*Negative sentiment refers to online reactions that express unfavorable opinions, dissatisfaction, or criticism towards a subject.
