Pancakes or Waffles: A Closer Look at Nekoosa Student-Athlete Sofia Gaupp
OnFocus: What are your favorite subjects/classes and why?
I enjoy English class because it allows me to express myself creatively and in ways I
wouldn’t normally.
OnFocus: What are your hobbies?
I enjoy crocheting flowers, making beaded bracelets, going for walks, binge watching
Law and Order, laughing until I cry, going for drives at night, swimming in hot tubs,
hiking, and working out at the gym.
OnFocus: Who is/was your first favorite teacher and why?
Mr. Dye, the English teacher, is my favorite teacher because he enjoys joking around
with the class, and he has vast amounts of wisdom about various subjects.
OnFocus: What is the most unusual food you have eaten?
A Deer heart
OnFocus: What is your favorite music to listen to?
Pop music, especially anything by Sabrina Carpenter
OnFocus: What are your plans after high school?
I plan to pursue a four-year degree in Political Science at the University of Minnesota
Duluth.
OnFocus: If they made a movie about you, and your life, what would it be called?
“Everything All At Once”, my life can be very busy and stressful.
OnFocus: What sports do you play?
Cross Country and Softball
OnFocus: Which teammate would you not want to be stranded with on a deserted
island?
I’d have to say Lily Rhodes. She would probably make me swim away from the island
with all the goofy phrases she spouts daily. Every day we would have to compete for
food because she’s very competitive, and she seems like she’d be good at hunting, and
I don’t think I’d stand a chance.
OnFocus: What are some memorable moments you have had as an athlete?
Hitting an in-the-park home run, laying down my first snap bunt, performing a rolling
dive catch, and completing a double play from the outfield all during Junior year.
OnFocus: Who are your favorite athletes and/or teams?
On the rare occasion I watch sports, I only really watch football, so I’d have to say the
Green Bay Packers.
OnFocus: What do you enjoy most about competing in front of family, friends, and
fans?
I love it when I make an amazing play and afterwards I’m told that was really impressive
sometimes by fans I don’t know. The best thing about playing in front of my family is that
they get to have a sense of pride seeing me compete in the sport I love.
OnFocus: Do you have a funny or unusual moment(s) you have experienced in
sports?
The funniest moments happen for me when I’m out in the outfield and I do a celebration
with whoever is on the right and left.
OnFocus: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at …
The best thing about being a student athlete at Nekoosa High School is that it’s a small
school, so we’re a tighter community that supports each other year-round in all different
sports.
OnFocus: What words of wisdom can you give to other student-athletes?
Always put in full effort, whether it’s practice, a scrimmage, or a game, because you’ll
never know your full potential unless you go all out. And you just might make the
highlight reel.
OnFocus: Lastly, pancakes or waffles?
Pancakes
