We take a look at Columbus Catholic student athlete Alex Edwards, who earlier this season notched his 100th career goal for the Dons. Edwards answers all of the easy and not so easy questions, with our world-famous interview: Pancakes or Waffles?

OnFocus: What are your favorite subjects/classes and why?

Edwards: My favorite subject inschool is science because I like learning about how to understand our world better and the excitement of discovery.

Edwards: Make sure your academics comes first. As much fun as high school sports are, it will come to an end and you need something to fall back on to support you for the rest of your life.


OnFocus: What are your hobbies?

Edwards: My hobbies include reading, playing video games, hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

OnFocus: Who is/was your first favorite teacher and why?

Edwards: My first favorite teacher I had was my kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Brock. She was a super fun person to be around as a young child and she made every student feel special.


OnFocus: What is the most unusual food you have eaten?

Edwards: The most unusual food I’ve eaten was ostrich jerky.

OnFocus: What is your favorite music to listen to?

Edwards: I like to listen to all kinds of music. Some of my favorite kinds are Hip-Hop, Country, Heavy Metal, and Jazz.

OnFocus: What are your plans after high school?

Edwards: My plan after high school is to attend college and major in Biomedical Sciences.

OnFocus: If they made a movie about you, and your life, what would it be called?

Edwards: The movie about me would be called “Life’s Playbook”.

OnFocus: What sports do you play?

Edwards: The sports I play are soccer, basketball, and baseball.

OnFocus: Which teammate would you not want to be stranded with on a deserted
island?

Edwards: I would not want to be stranded on a deserted island with Lucas Kreklau because he would most likely eat me if we are starving.

OnFocus: What are some memorable moments you have had as an athlete?

Edwards: Some of my memorable moments as an athlete were going to state for baseball, playing in the sectional final as a freshman for soccer, and scoring my first career goal as part of a hat-trick, with an assist coming from our goalie, Wyatt.

OnFocus: Who are your favorite athletes and/or teams?

Edwards: My favorite athletes are Michael Jordan, Erling Haaland, and Jack Grealish. My favorite teams are the Green Bay Packers, Manchester City, and the UK college men’s basketball team.

OnFocus: What do you enjoy most about competing in front of family, friends and fans?

Edwards: I like the feeling of an electric atmosphere and having people coming to support me and my team.

OnFocus: Do you have a funny or unusual moment(s) you have experienced in
sports?

Edwards: Whenever my basketball team would travel for summer ball, we would play the
mobile game, Among Us, the entire way down. It helped with our communication a lot.
Every bus ride, every summer trip, and every hotel experience was filled with funny and
memorable moments because our teams have such a tight bond.

OnFocus: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at Columbus Catholic?

Edwards: The best thing about being a student-athlete at Columbus is knowing that the teachers care about you individually and want you to succeed in all that you do. Another great thing about being a student-athlete at Columbus is how passionately the students support each other in the classroom and in athletics.

OnFocus: What words of wisdom can you give to other student-athletes?

Edwards: Make sure your academics comes first. As much fun as high school sports are, it will come to an end and you need something to fall back on to support you for the rest of your life.

Edwards: Pancakes because of the greater versatility.
