We take a look at Marshfield student-athlete Solenne Lonsdale with our world-famous interview, ‘Pancakes or Waffles?’ to get the inside information on what makes this Tiger senior ‘tick.’

OnFocus:What are your favorite subjects/classes and why?

Lonsdale: My favorite subject is social studies especially psychology because I like learning about what makes people act or think the way they do.
Lonsdale: Always put your all into what you’re doing, whether it’s sports, school, or work. Don’t be afraid to step back if you’re feeling too overwhelmed and take a break to allow yourself to come back stronger than you were before.

OnFocus: What are your hobbies?

Lonsdale: I love to read and bake and eat cookies. I also play the flute in our high school band.

OnFocus: Who is/was your first favorite teacher and why?

Lonsdale: Mrs. Johanson, my kindergarten teacher because she made school fun, did lots of art projects, and continued to support me even after kindergarten.

OnFocus: What is the most unusual food you have eaten?

Lonsdale: Calamari

OnFocus: What is your favorite music to listen to?

Lonsdale: I love Christmas music, but I also like pop.

OnFocus: What are your plans after high school?

Lonsdale: I am planning on attending college at either Utah State University or BYU to become a child life specialist. I would also like to serve a 18 month mission for my church.

OnFocus: If they made a movie about you, and your life, what would it be called?

Lonsdale: The stunning stumbles and successes of Solenne

OnFocus: What sports do you play?

Lonsdale: Gymnastics and Track and Field

OnFocus: Which teammate would you not want to be stranded with on a deserted island?

Lonsdale: Alyvia

OnFocus: What are some memorable moments you have had as an athlete?

Lonsdale: When I made my giants over for the first time, tore a ligament in my arm, and broke the team school record.

OnFocus: Who are your favorite athletes and/or teams?

Lonsdale: University of Utah college gymnastics

OnFocus: What do you enjoy most about competing in front of family, friends and fans?

Lonsdale: I love showing how hard I have worked to get the skill I have and having fun while competing. I love hearing the cheers and knowing that people are supporting me.

OnFocus: Do you have a funny or unusual moment(s) you have experienced in sports?

Lonsdale: I won the handstand contest at the same meet three years in a row and would got a prize every time, but this year I thought I was the only one left and came down, but there was actually another girl still up who won. I also didn’t know a lot of the logistics of how gymnastics works, like how many scores they used until this year.

OnFocus: What’s the best thing about being a student-athlete at Marshfield Area Senior High?

Lonsdale: The friendships I make in any sport, but especially gymnastics make a huge difference in my life because I get to know people on a different level as we share some of both our happiness and most disappointing moments.
OnFocus:  What words of wisdom can you give to other student-athletes?
Lonsdale: Always put your all into what you’re doing, whether it’s sports, school, or work. Don’t be afraid to step back if you’re feeling too overwhelmed and take a break to allow yourself to come back stronger than you were before.
OnFocus: Lastly, pancakes or waffles?
Lonsdale: Waffles
