PANTHERS DROP HOME OPENER
Pittsville suffered a heartbreaking defeat falling to Spencer 28-22. The Panthers were down 14-6 at halftime with Dalton Darr recovering a Pittsville fumble in the endzone for the touchdown. Down 20-6 in the 4th quarter Pittsville found their footing. Dawson Luther threw a pass to Jameson Krueger, who made a great catch and galloped in for the TD. Krueger followed that up with a 2 point conversion catch from Logan Zickert leaving the Panthers down by 6. The Panther defense locked down the Rockets and forced a punt that was downed inside the 10 yard line. Luther ripped off a 57 yard run to get the Panthers out of the hole. Pittsville converted two 4th down conversions to keep the drive alive and Zickert found Darr for the game tying 10 yard touchdown pass. Zickert came through again, sprinting in for the 2 point conversion and a 22-20 lead. The Panther defense was unable to make plays to stop Spencer as they scored the game winning touchdown with 3 seconds left.
Dawson Luther showed his versatility filling the stat sheet with 115 yards rushing, 4 catches for 54 yards receiving, and 36 yards passing with a touchdown. Zickert threw for 113 yards and a touchdown. Darr added 17 yards rushing with a touchdown and a 10 yard receiving touchdown. Krueger chipped in with 3 catches for 49 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Blake Grossman lassoed 10 tackles. Grant Rademan and Dawson Luther both had 7 tackles and an interception. Daryn Luther also gathered 7 tackles. Racyn Schooley, Dalton Darr, Caden Behselich, and Matthew Gudel all wrapped up 6 tackles.
The Panthers look to get in the win column and are home again this Friday at 7 p.m. against Rosholt starting conference play. This Friday is Parent’s Night.
