MARSHFIELD, Wis. (AP) — Court documents say the central Wisconsin parents arrested in the death their newborn told police they didn’t believe doctors who said the woman was pregnant.
Investigators say the 22-year-old woman and 19-year-old man told them they thought the baby was dead after the mother gave birth at home in Milladore and then went to a Marshfield hospital because she was bleeding heavily early Saturday.
The parents are accused of leaving the newborn in a garbage bag in their vehicle outside the Marshfield Medical Center. Court documents say an autopsy showed the boy was born alive and suffered injuries to his neck.
Hospital staff called authorities after the woman denied giving birth. Sheriff’s deputies found the child in the couple’s vehicle and rushed the newborn inside where he was revived. The child died later that day.
