Marshfield (OnFocus) – The City of Marshfield Board of Public Works met Monday night for their regular meeting, with one topic of discussion being parking along a stretch of Adler Road. Staff was asked to look at the parking restrictions on Adler Road west of Lincoln Avenue, after citizens expressed concern about traffic on that section of road.

Currently parking is prohibited on both sides of Adler Road from Magnolia Drive to Lincoln Avenue and on both sides of Adler Road west of Hawthorne Avenue. There are no parking restrictions between Hawthorne and Magnolia.
According to a City memo, there is a business on the north side of the road that generates parking demand in the evenings, causing cars to park on both sides of Adler Road. Patrons parking on the south side then cross the street mid-block to get to the business.
“This is something that the neighbors want and I want because it’s in my district,” said Alderman Ken Bargender. “It’s a very dangerous situation…for safety’s sake, I really recommend that we vote in favor of this motion and move it along to Wood County Board.”
Board of Public Works Director Dan Knoeck explained that it would be safer if all parking were on the north side of the street. Alderman Adam Fischer amended the motion to include the north side of the street, encompassing the stretch of road from the bridge by Weber Park to Lincoln Ave.
This segment of roadway is under the jurisdiction of Wood County so changes must be forwarded in a request to the Wood County Highway Committee.
The Board recommend unanimously that a request be made to Wood County to prohibit parking along Adler Road (CTH Y) from the bridge (City limits) to Lincoln Ave.
