Pat McDonald: Lincoln High School’s Head Boy’s Hockey Coach Retiring
Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln’s Head Boys Hockey Coach retiring after 28 years as head coach of the Red Raiders.
Coach McDonald started his coaching career at Eau Claire
North in 1991 as an assistant coach. In 1993 Pat became head coach at River Falls
where he remained until taking over the Red Raiders program in 1997.
During his time at Lincoln, Coach McDonald accumulated a 431-231-18 record, bringing
his total wins to 458. While coaching the Red Raiders, Coach McDonald won six
conference championships and had eight state appearances.
Pat was the Wisconsin
Hockey Coaches Association, “Coach of the Year” in 2003. Coach McDonald was also
the WHCA President from 2003-2005, WHCA Board Member from 2003-20023, State
Hockey Banquet Coordinator from 2005-2022, and was on the WIAA Advisory
Committee from 2003-2017. Along with coaching hockey at Lincoln, Coach McDonald
coached boys’ golf for 12 years and had one conference championship and one team
state appearance. Pat also had stints as an assistant baseball and assistant girls’ golf
coach.
“Pat McDonald is a true legend in Wisconsin high school hockey and has made a
lasting impact on Red Raider Athletics as a baseball and golf coach as well,” said
Ronald Rasmussen, WRPS Superintendent. “For nearly 30 years, Pat has dedicated his
energy to building a successful hockey program — but even more importantly, he has
shaped the lives of countless
student-athletes, helping them flourish both
on and off the ice/field/course through his
guidance and mentorship. We wish Pat all
the best on his retirement.”
The Lincoln High School Athletic Department
thanks Coach McDonald for all his countless
hours and his dedication to hockey in the
Wisconsin Rapids community. Coach
McDonald has left a positive and strong
foundation for hockey in our school and
community and his impact will be long felt.
