The Personal Development Center, now called the PDC Orenda Center, celebrated its move to the former homeless shelter with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday. The shelter will open September 24.
After 41 years as a private non-profit for domestic abuse and assault victims, the new location will allow the PDC to offer safe, temporary housing for victims as well as enhanced programming.
And the service is necessary – in 2016 alone, 969 individuals received help from the services offered to begin healing from their trauma. Advocates work to safely transition individuals back to their own home and lift them up toward a successful future. With the new housing option, this task will be simpler.
Mitten’s Home Appliance donated much of the furniture for the new location at 505 E. Depot St. MACCI led the ceremony with an appearance by Mayor Bob McManus.
“I just want you to know the City will be behind you all the way,” he said.
“We are so lucky to have such amazing people,” Executive Director Renee Schulz praised the staff and volunteers. “Marshfield has always been a community that we see a need and we all rally together to meet that need. There are not enough words to express how deeply appreciative I am.”
She was also grateful for help from The Family Center in Wisconsin Rapids. “We will make community proud and serve those who need us.”
