Marshfield’s Fallen Officer Fred Beell Honored
Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15 pays tribute to officers killed or disabled in the line of duty.
Due to COVID-19, the Marshfield Police Department isn’t holding its annual public ceremony but is still recognizing officers during Police Week, particularly Fred Beell, who was killed while responding to a robbery at Marshfield Brewery on August 5, 1933. Beell is the only Marshfield officer to have been killed in the line of duty.
“This year, we ask community members to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by law enforcement, and specifically the ultimate sacrifice Fred Beell made for our community in 1933,” the department stated.
In recognition of Beell, the department discussed his life with Marshfield historian, Shirley Mook.
