Playoff Qualification Report Week 7

We will go conference by conference and update you on where teams stand for the football playoffs.

The qualifications rules state that teams must be either a conference champion or have a winning conference record to qualify for the playoffs.

Teams with a .500 record are eligible for the playoffs but do not have a guaranteed place.

If the 224 team playoff field is not filled after these three conditions the remaining teams with the best conference win/loss percentage are in the field.

Team (Conference Record) Remaining Conference Games

VFA West

Qualified
Marshfield (4-3)

Work to do
DC Everest (3-3) @Marshfield, Stevens Point
DC Everest must win one of their last two, they have a tough test at Marshfield in week 8 but then get winless Stevens Point in week 9

WI Rapids (3-4) @Wausau West
Wisconsin Rapids got back on the winning track with a win over Stevens Point, but with a non-conference game this week, the Raiders will have to wait until week 9 to see if they qualify.

Eliminated
Stevens Point (0-6)
Wausau West (0-6)

Marawood

Qualified
Stratford (4-0)
Edgar (3-0)

Work to Do
Auburndale (2-2) @Rib Lake/Prentice
Auburndale secured a winning season with a blowout win over Mayville, and has one more non-conference game this week at North Fond du Lac before they can secure their playoff spot with a Week 9 game against Rib Lake/Prentice

Tomahawk (1-2) @Marathon, Edgar
Tomahawk staved off elimination with a non-conference loss to Hurley, but they still have to win out to make the playoffs and have an insanely tough game Week 9 when they host Edgar.

Eliminated
Marathon (1-3)
Rib Lake/Prentice (0-4)

Cloverbelt

Qualified
Eau Claire Regis (6-0)
Colby (5-1)
Osseo-Fairchild (4-2)
Spencer/Columbus (4-2)

Work to Do
Stanley-Boyd (2-4) @Fall Creek, Colby
Stanley-Boyd is at serious risk of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2009 after being upset by Neillsville/Granton. While they should beat Fall Creek this week, their Week 9 game at home against Colby will probably knock them out.

Neillsville/Granton (2-4) Osseo-Fairchild, @Regis
A big upset win over Stanley-Boyd staved off elimination for one week, but with the conference leaders in Eau Claire Regis looming in Week 9 Neillsville/Granton looks to be out as well.

Eliminated
Altoona (2-5)
Fall Creek (0-6)

Cloverwood

Qualified
Abbotsford (5-0)
Athens (4-1)
Loyal (4-1)

Work to Do
Gilman (3-2) @Athens, Loyal
Gilman did their job and took down Assumption Friday night, they will need to upset either Athens or Loyal to get in.

Greenwood (2-3) Assumption, @Thorp
Now that Greenwood’s gauntlet is over they now get to play two teams near the bottom of the conference, that week 9 game at Thorp could have a lot on the line. They do need to win out to make the playoffs but with this schedule, they have the best chance of getting in of the three teams remaining in the conference.

Thorp (2-3) @Loyal, Greenwood
Thorp also did their job and took down Owen-Withee on Friday night, they will need to win out and upset Loyal if they want to get in.

Eliminated (almost)
Assumption (0-5)
Owen-Withee (0-5)

Great Northern

Qualified
Medford (4-0)
Mosinee (4-0)

Work to Do
Rhinelander (2-2) Merrill, @Ashland
Rhinelander needs one more win to become eligible, with two winnable games left on the schedule it seems like a good chance they make it.

Antigo (2-3) @Mosinee
Antigo will need a major upset to make the playoffs after falling to Medford this week, they get a game against independent Wausau East this week to get ready for a trip to Mosinee

Merrill (1-3) @Rhinelander, Medford
Merrill needs to win out, but with games against Medford and at Rhinelander they will need two big upsets to make it.

Lakeland (2-3) Ashland
Lakeland has one conference game left against winless Ashland in Week 8 to become playoff eligible for the first time since 2009.

Eliminated (Almost)
Ashland (0-4)

Central Wisconsin Small

Qualified
Almond-Bancroft (4-0)
Pittsville (3-1)

Work to do
Rosholt (2-2) Wild Rose
Rosholt has a must-win game against Wild Rose this week if they want to get in the playoffs, lucky for Rosholt Wild Rose is 0-7 on the season.

Pacelli (1-2) Almond Bancroft, @Wild Rose
Pacelli staved off elimination with a win over Menominee Indian, but still have to upset Almond-Bancroft this week if they want to make the playoffs.

Eliminated
Menominiee Indian (1-3)
Wild Rose (0-3)
