Marshfield (OnFocus) – On Sunday at approximately 4:15pm, a citizen reported the presence of a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood of Oak Ave and Omaha St.
According to the police report, an unknown male tried to offer a juvenile candy. The juvenile refused, but the male continued to press the juvenile to take the candy. The male was described as elderly, in his 60’s, with blue eyes, glasses, white goatee, and moles on his face. The male was wearing a plaid hat with plaid shirt or jacket, and driving a white GMC SUV with black rims.
Patrol Officer Landon Kramer said the juvenile did the right thing to refuse candy and alert a trusted adult.
“If any child or juvenile would be offered candy by an unknown person, they should immediately tell that person ‘no’ and walk away, then find a parent or an adult that they do trust, or if they have a cell phone, they can call a parent or police and we’d be more than happy to respond,” said Kramer. “If the person pursues the child, they should keep walking and try to find another adult or a trusted friend, or (if they have a cell phone) call them or the police.”
Kramer encourages parents to talk with their children about never accepting any gift from an unknown person, whether it’s a toy, stuffed animal, beverage, or candy. Everyone is encouraged to call the police department if they witness something unusual.
“If anybody has any suspicions or feels uncomfortable, they can absolutely call us day or night anytime and we will do our best to look into it,” said Kramer. “It’s always good to be aware of what’s going on around you. There’s no harm in being overly cautious.”
