Marshfield Mall Redevelopment Option Presented at Council

At Tuesday night’s meeting of the City of Marshfield Common Council, Ned Brickman, President of Midland Management (a company that owns malls in Wisconsin and several other states and is the new owner of Marshfield Mall) presented about a possible redevelopment of Marshfield Mall.

“Brickman is with the mall ownership group and he just wants to walk through what the redevelopment proposal would be,” said Josh Miller, Development Services Director. “As part of a TIF district, eventually we’ll be talking about what the City’s involvement would be. We’re not going to do that in open session but that would be a part of a later discussion.”

The possible redevelopment would involve razing the current mall building, leaving just the current Younker’s location, Kohl’s, and Ashley Furniture HomeStore, and add the construction of five medium big box stores, two new buildings along Ives St. for fast casual dining restaurants, and a smaller building that would have spaces for the current mall tenants.

“We’ve recently found a niche. We’ve done a number of these redevelopments of malls in markets similar to Marshfield,” said Brickman. “We just recently did a redevelopment in Marinette which we kind of referred to because the towns are similar in terms of size and the mall itself had to close JC Penney and closed Yonker’s.”

There was no action by the Council, but any TIF funding would have to come before the Council.
