No Injuries as Marshfield Police Department Assisted by Area Departments in Sunday Negotiation

Submitted to FOCUS – Law enforcement arrested 24 year-old Michael J. Lea in the 1100 block of E Kalsched St in the City of Marshfield today at 3:18 pm. Lea had a felony warrant for robbery out of Kansas City and was considered armed and dangerous based on his prior conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The Marshfield Police Department had been made aware of the warrant and of his criminal history earlier in the month.

At 9:52 am today, a Marshfield officer saw Lea outside of a residence he was suspected of being at. The officer attempted to speak with him, but Lea fled into the residence and refused to comply with officers.

Officers from the Marshfield Police Department, Wood County Sheriff’s Department, Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, City of Spencer Police Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol surrounded the residence. Members of the Marshfield Police Auxiliary assisted with traffic control. The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department was present to assist if needed.

Marshfield Police Department kept citizens updated on social media, posting:

“***Press Release Crisis on Northeast side of Marshfield***

Streets have been closed, and citizens are ordered to stay away from this area until the situation is resolved. Citizens within this area are instructed to stay inside their residence until notified. and later updating with:

“Update – subject in custody – safe resolution – more information to be released in the near future. Thanks to all for your patience, prayers and support.”

Crisis Negotiators made contact with Lea at around noon and were able to convince Lea to exit the residence and submit to arrest after three hours of communication. No one was injured as a result of this incident.
