PG Wellness Committee Hosts “Buy Local” Event for Staff
PreventionGenetics’ wellness committee hosted a “Buy Local” Open House event last week as a fun way to highlight local businesses.
Weber’s Farm Store, Nasonville Dairy, Hewitt’s Meat Processing, One Love Bread, 2 1/2 Cups Cupcakery and Bake Shop, Sweet Retreat Cake Boutique, Kayhart Farm, and Sand County Staples were on location at the business to share their products and insight.
“PreventionGenetics is very active within the community and tries to support other local businesses,” said Renee Binder, Human Resources and Wellness Committee member.
Brainstorming ideas with coworker Jocelyn Schroeder, the two women thought a “buy local” themed event featuring local business would be a great addition to their company wellness program. The first event in January featured local options to eat healthy, and featured CSA farms, cheese factories, and bread shops, and attracted 80 employees.
Last week’s event, which was open to all of PreventionGenetics’ onsite employees in Marshfield, was the second “buy local” feature, and expanded to include a local meat producer, bakeries, and homemade soaps.
“It’s a way to showcase the great businesses we have in our community to our employees,” said Binder. “We feel it is important to support other local businesses in the Marshfield community because we are all ultimately working together to keep our community attractive for people to travel to and work/live in.”
Working in HR, Binder witnesses firsthand the challenges involved with recruiting and keeping top talent in a smaller community. With Marshfield having so much to offer, events like last week’s serve as an important way to showcase many local highlights.
“I think all the businesses in all industries need to work together to keep Marshfield ‘on the map’ and showcase the great amenities we have in our community,” she said. “Hosting this workshop was one of many ways we try to promote Marshfield and the great community we live in to our employees.”
