Do you have radon in your home?

WOOD COUNTY, WI (OnFocus) – Did you know that 1 in 10 homes in Wood County has high radon levels? Radon is a radioactive gas that seeps into your home from the ground. It’s invisible, odorless, and the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. The only way to know if your home has radon is through testing.

Why Test for Radon?
Testing your home for radon is affordable, easy, and crucial for your health. Until the end of January, radon test kits are available for just $5.00 from the Wood County Health Department. Contact Kate Carlson at 715-421-8935 to purchase your kit.

Winter: The Best Time to Test
Winter is ideal for radon testing because homes are sealed with closed windows and doors, creating a controlled environment. This reduces ventilation, allowing radon levels to build and providing a more accurate reading.

What If Your Home Has High Radon Levels?
If radon levels in your home measure 4 pCi/L or higher, it’s essential to install a radon mitigation system. These systems use a pipe and fan to safely redirect radon gas from beneath your home to the outside, preventing it from entering your living spaces. Over 100 certified professionals across Wisconsin can assist with mitigation.
