Expert shares one top tip for keeping your home warmer in winter that can save $$$

Key Findings:

  • Real estate professionals reveal one super-cost-effective hack for insulating your home in winter
  • You don’t need to spend big money to keep your home warm during the cold months
  • Most people don’t know this simple top tip for home insulation in the cold season – a specialist shows what to do

Homeowners are constantly on the lookout for affordable ways to insulate their homes during the cold months without racking up high energy bills. There are various things you can do to keep the heat in and the cold out, but many of them cost more than the money they help you save on heating.

Now, real estate professionals are sharing one great hack that can help you stay warm in winter for a very small initial cost.

“Most people think insulating their residence against cold weather is expensive and requires a lot of hassle,” say real estate experts at Palm Paradise Realty Group. “But the truth is that there is one way you can do it that is brilliantly effective, and very easy on your wallet.”

Here, these experts share the simple trick that can keep the heat up and costs down.

The Expert’s Hot (Cool) Hack

“The most effective way to keep your house warm during winter is bubble wrap on the windows,” reveals Palm Paradise Realty Group. “Your windows are where around 30% of the heat in your home escapes – so insulating them makes sense. Bubble wrap is very cheap and functions extremely well as an insulator. So to effectively insulate your home on a budget, use bubble wrap on windows during the coldest months.”

The great thing about bubble wrap is how cheap it is. You can buy enough of it to insulate the windows in an average home for as little as about $20 (a roll roughly 200 ft. long and 12 inches wide). That’s an astonishingly low investment for an awful lot of insulation.

Installation

Fitting bubble wrap to your windows is easy, and requires almost no equipment.

To install bubble wrap on your windows:

  • Cut the wrap: Cut the bubble wrap to a size that’s slightly smaller than your window with scissors.
  • Spray the window: Lightly mist the window with clean water.
  • Apply the bubble wrap: Press the wrap onto the window while the window is still slightly wet. The moisture will enable it to self-adhere.
  • Remove excess: Trim away any excess bubble wrap.
  • To remove the bubble wrap: When you want to take the wrap off your windows, pull it off gently, starting at a corner.

Remember: the bubble side of the bubble wrap goes toward the glass. That way the air inside the bubbles absorbs much of the cold before it is transmitted into your house – which is the principle behind double glazing.

Applied carefully like this, the bubble wrap on your windows should stay put for multiple years – though you may want to remove it when things heat up, and then reapply new bubble wrap to your windows the following winter.

To Wrap Up

“Insulating windows with bubble wrap has been popular with people we’ve recommended it to – and that’s no surprise,” concludes Palm Paradise Realty Group. “People say that the bubble wrap doesn’t just insulate your house against cold. Applied properly – and you don’t need an expensive professional to do that – it can also zap drafts coming in around the window edges.”

“This smart hack can help you save money on your heating bills while keeping the warmth inside, where it belongs. When homeowners make small, affordable changes to their house during winter, they can add up to make a big difference in home energy efficiency, and year-round heating costs.”
