Board of Public Works Discussed Change
Marshfield (OnFocus) – At their Monday meeting, the Board of Public Works discussed reducing the speed limit on Adler Road (County Highway Y) from the west city limits to Sycamore Ave. Currently the speed limit there is 45 MPH. The Board recommended reducing the speed limit to 35 MPH.

Public Works Director Dan Knoeck said at last night’s meeting that during discussions about a trail, residents mentioned a request for speed reduction along that stretch.
This road segment is under the jurisdiction of the Wood County Highway Department so any changes to the speed limit require County approval. According to a City Memo, the Wood County Highway Commissioner indicated that the Highway Committee typically supports these requests if the municipality is in support. He also mentioned that it is helpful if the municipality can assist with enforcement. The Police Chief has indicated his support for this change.
“I live just two houses off Adler road, so I’m very familiar with traffic patterns out there,” said Alderman Ken Bargender. “I’d like to see some reduced speed limit signs coming out of the township to the west, so they would know once they get past the bridge that it would be a 35 MPH zone.”
City Engineer Tom Turchi said there wouldn’t need to be those signs, due to redundancy.
Bargender also requested parking be removed from the south side of Adler from Sycamore to Locust, which will be addressed during a future meeting.
“It’s a safety factor,” he said.
The next step will be staff making a formal request to the Wood County Highway Committee on behalf of the Common Council to reduce the speed limit in both directions on Adler Road (CTH Y) from 45 MPH to 35 MPH from the west city limits to Sycamore Avenue.
