WWII Marine Corps Captain Lester A. Schade will be brought home to his home of Abbotsford, Wisconsin nearly 75 years after his death.
A reinternment service with Full Military Honors will take place at the Abbotsford Cemetery on May 11, 2019 at 1 p.m. with the U.S. Marine Corps and Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home.
Captain Schade was killed January 9, 1945 after an attack on an unmarked Japanese transport ship by American carrier planes in present-day Taiwan. He became a prisoner of war after the Philippines fell in April 1942, survived the Bataan Death March, and was held at Cabanatuan Prison Camp No. 1.
In 2017, his remains were disinterred from the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii and identified.
