Medford Pen Pals

Medford (OnFocus) – Residents at Our House Senior Living in Medford are seeking pen pals, and local residents are encouraged to reach out!  Carol, Evie, Marie, Judy, and Aggie were recently featured on the business’s Facebook page in honor of National Friendship Day.

“They were excited because they are very eager to get mail,” said Susie Nicks, Residence Director. “They enjoy getting mail so they are very excited to interact with any pen pal that reaches out.”

Since COVID-19, residents haven’t been able to have as many visitors, so the marketing team has been devising creative ways to help residents stay social.

“Since COVID hit, we’ve had to rethink our marketing and how we reach out. Credit goes to Lisa Gering, our Occupancy Development Manager, who put this idea together,” said Nicks, who added that residents enjoy getting any kind of mail – cards, letters, pictures, etc.

Though the center is coordinating “window visits” with family and scheduled family outside visits, these are limited – which is why the idea of a pen pal came to fruition.

“Our number one concern is the safety of our residents and we need to keep them safe and healthy, but also we have to think of ideas to help them feel not so isolated,” said Nicks. “We do encourage people to reach out because it is hard on them. Anything people can do to brighten their day. I can’t wait to start seeing these letters.”

For those interested in participating, the following women are seeking pen pals:

  • Carol, whose interests are coloring, reading, curling, bridge card game, and her grandchildren.
  • Evie, whose interests include embroidery, dancing, fishing, watching movies, swimming, rabbits.
  • Marie, who loves animals, reading, helping people, church, and gardening.
  • Judy, who enjoys knitting, puzzles, fishing, reading, watching tv, and gardening.
  • Aggie, who has interests in crafting, gardening, reading newspapers, church, playing cards, and baking.
