Rhinelander Soccer Takes Care of Northland Pines

Varsity Pines 0 Hodags 4

JV Pines 0 Hodags 2
This is a solid and physical team.  I watched them play and new we would have our hands full and need to play our best. The first 15 minutes the girls panicked and chased the ball.  When you have a team with a strong midfield you cannot chase the ball and girls off the ball cannot watch.  We struggles to pick up the overload of attack and as a result the goals came early and often. 11 minutes a ball came from the left side to their right forwards knocking it by Izzy Chuckel.   Two minut s later Chuckel made a save but we failed to mark the attacking left forwards who cleaned up the rebound. One minute late the ball was played behind our defender and the same left forward got a clear shot when she cut back inside the left putting the ball in the far right corner.  11 minutes into the game and your down 0-3 is a tough hole to dig out of.  In the 20 minute a foul was committed and their set play was perfectly executed and put in the top left corner just out of the reach of outstretched Chuckel.   We made some defense adjustments and gained our composure and we were able to stop the bleeding and were down 0-4.  At half I told the girls this is a good team and if we decide to trust in each other and commit to win 50/50 balls we will be in this game and will frustrate them and their coach. When you believe you can play with a team like Rhinelander you will then have the confidence to play against the top teams in our region and section.  This is the caliber of soccer we will see. We shut down the midfield and possessed much better in the second half and controlled much of the half.  Rhinelander had two good opportunities and we had four nice opportunities but the second have was a scoreless game and the final Pines 0 Rhinelander 4.  Take 11 minutes out of the game and this is a GNC rivalry battle.  I was proud of our girls for not giving up and showing up the second half.  No they know what they are capable of and what level of play is needed.
