4 Rhinelander Hodags
With the “head of a frog, the grinning face of a giant elephant, thick short legs set off by huge claws, the back of a dinosaur, and a long tail with a spear’s end” this mythical creature is a perfect mascot for the town where it was “discovered”

4 Lake Mills L-Cats
Probably one of the more fun stories of any of our teams, the Lake Mills L-Cats story involves a potentially rigged election, an attempt to get around school censorship, and patriotism during World War II. A student group was pushing for the name as a way to recognize the “Hell Cats” that flew fighter planes in the war. Knowing that the school would never accept a Hell Cats mascot they dropped the “hel” and went with L-Cats. That same student group was responsible for counting the votes and even though Bears allegedly won they announced L-Cats as the winner.
13 New Glarus Glarner Knights
New Glarus carries an interesting story, the Canton of Glarus in Switzerland offered loans for people to move to America, and they settled in New Glarus WI. Playing off their Swiss Heritage they used the Glarner Knights as their mascot, Glarner being a term for being from Glarus and Knights for obvious reasons.
