Rhode Island, Connecticut, Arizona and Virginia Top List of States Where Men are Most Concerned about Their Appearance

A new study ranked the states where men are most concerned about their appearance. Rhode Island is first with high search volumes for male beauty and fitness keywords.
Connecticut has the highest health club membership rate, indicating a strong focus on organized fitness among men.
States like Arizona and Virginia have a high density of barbershops, reflecting a strong grooming culture.

Methodology: A new study by Ben’s Natural Health ranked the U.S. states where men are most concerned about their appearance, using four key indicators: barbershops per 1,000 people (30%), search volume for male beauty and fitness keywords (30%), health club membership rate (20%), and exercise level among men (20%). Data sources included Google Maps, Google Ads Keyword Planner, Statista, and America’s Health Rankings, with population data from the U.S. Census Bureau standardizing results per 1,000 residents. Metrics were normalized using Min-Max scaling, weighted by importance, and combined into a composite score: Composite Score = 0.3(Barbershops) + 0.3(Search Volume) + 0.2(Gym Membership Rate) + 0.2(Exercise Level). Scores were scaled from 0 to 10, allowing for consistent comparison across states.
