MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The School District of Marshfield has announced an important adjustment to its 2025-2026 academic calendar. With approval from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), the district has been granted a one-year exemption to begin the school year earlier than usual. Classes will now commence on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, marking a significant change from the traditional post-September 1st start mandated by state law.

Under Wisconsin law, public schools are generally required to start the academic year no earlier than September 1st. However, DPI can grant exemptions in cases of extraordinary circumstances. For the School District of Marshfield, the approval is directly tied to the extensive construction projects set in motion by the November 5th facility referendum.

Both Grant Elementary School and Marshfield High School are slated for significant upgrades, with the most disruptive construction phase scheduled for the summer of 2026. By starting the school year a week earlier in 2025, the district can conclude the 2025-2026 academic year earlier, giving construction crews an additional week during the critical summer period to complete their work. This proactive measure aims to minimize disruptions to student learning while keeping the referendum projects on schedule.

The adjusted calendar reflects the district’s commitment to maintaining a safe and productive learning environment while managing the complexities of large-scale construction. “This exemption ensures we can meet the demands of our facility improvements while prioritizing the educational experience for our students,” stated district representatives.

The updated 2025-2026 academic calendar is now available on the school district’s website. Families and staff are encouraged to review the schedule and plan accordingly. For additional questions or concerns, please contact the Board of Education Office at 715-387-1101.
