Scott Benitz: Lincoln High School’s Head Wrestling Coach Stepping Down
Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln’s Head Wrestling Coach steps down after 23 years as head coach of
the Red Raiders. Coach Benitz started coaching wrestling in 1986 at East Junior High in
Wisconsin Rapids. He also had a four-year stint as head coach at Port Edwards and 11 years as
an assistant coach at Lincoln.
Scott was co-head Coach from 2002-2006 before becoming head coach in 2007. Over those
years at LHS, he accumulated a dual meet record of 461-69, thus totaling 471 career wins.
Coach Benitz led the Red Raider Wrestlers to 14 Wisconsin Valley Conference titles, 16
Regional titles, 11 Sectional titles, and 9 Team State titles. 21 wrestlers from Lincoln were
crowned Individual State Champions during his time as head coach. Scott was also the 2005
State Coach of the Year and 2005 NFHS Region Coach of the Year. As an assistant coach, he
helped win 10 Wisconsin Valley Conference titles and 8 Team State titles. In 1998 and 2002,
Coach Benitz was awarded State Assistant Coach of the Year by the Wisconsin Wrestling
Coaches Association. Scott ended his career coaching one of his wrestlers to a win in the WIAA
Individual State Finals this year.
“Coach Benitz stands among the greatest wrestling coaches in Wisconsin high school athletics,”
said Ron Rasmussen WRPS Superintendent and former Lincoln High School Principal. “Scott’s
unwavering dedication to Red Raider Wrestling has left an indelible mark on our program. His
ability to guide athletes through both triumphs and challenges on the mat is unmatched, and his
strategic expertise in preparing for competition is second to none. Beyond high school, his
continued commitment to supporting his athletes is truly commendable. We proudly honor and
celebrate his contributions and loyalty to Wisconsin Rapids Wrestling and look forward to his
continued contributions as a teacher at Lincoln.”
The Lincoln High School Athletic Department thanks Coach Benitz
for his countless hours and dedication to wrestling in the Wisconsin
Rapids community. Coach Benitz has left a positive foundation for
wrestling in our school and community, and his impact on wrestling
will be long felt.
