Seehafer Acres received an award from the DHIA (Dairy Herd Improvement Association) for having the second highest milk yield in Marathon County. The farm yielded an average of 31,700 pounds of milk per cow from its herd of 300 in 2017, a record for Seehafer.
“That being my final year, it was a very nice honor,” said owner Ken Seehafer. “Something we had worked for all our farming years was to increase production and quality of milk.”
Ken is retiring from the dairy side of the business along with wife Karen to hand over the reins to their son. However, they still plan to be active with their horses and retail store, which is located a few minutes north of Marshfield on WI-97.
“We’re trying to help the next generation get started,” he said.
They put a lot of effort into the business but couldn’t have done it without their employees, Seehafer added. “Employees take good care of the animals. It’s what its all about.”
The Seehafers are also busy with their fall events. Anyone can stop by to pick pumpkins during store hours and take a turn through the corn maze. Wagon rides led by horses Sharon and Shirley are available Saturdays from 11-3pm and Sundays from Noon-3pm for a tour of the farm.
