Marshfield (OnFocus) – An online fundraiser is taking place for the Spencer Police Department K9 Unit, which started with their first K-9, Ella, in May 2019.
“Due to COVID-19, we cancelled our annual golf fundraiser (Par 4 a Pup), so we were trying to think of other good ways to raise money this year,” said Mindy Stellmach, Patrol Officer/K-9 Handler. “I’ve had a couple people ask me in the past if we were going to have Spencer K-9 shirts made, so I followed Marshfield PD’s lead and ran with it!
Shirts were designed by and are available through Premier Printing, and can be ordered online here.
“I was online looking for ideas for a design and came across the dog with the thin blue line flag behind it,” said Stellmach. “I thought it was a pretty cool design, so we teamed up with Premier Printing to add the wording to it! I’m very happy with how the design turned out!”
“We love helping with fundraisers like this,” said Lindsey Rasmussen, co-owner at Premier Printing. “It’s a fun way to support our local community!”
In addition to doing the t-shirt fundraiser, Spencer PD will be ordering plush K-9 dogs to have for sale as well. These plush K-9’s will be purchased through donations from a couple community businesses.
“We don’t have a set amount in mind to raise, we are grateful for any donations!” said Stellmach. “Between vet check-ups, training, and miscellaneous expenses, it is estimated to be about $2,500 annually to maintain the program. Our goal is to maintain the program strictly through community donations and not cost the taxpayer anything.”
Stellmach said that support so far from the community has been “phenomenal!”
“We are so thankful to all those that support our K-9 Program and have supported it from the very beginning,” she said. “This would not be possible otherwise!”
