MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The Marshfield Fire & Rescue Department responded to a small fire at Tower Hall Apartments, located at 112 East 2nd Street in Marshfield, on September 20, 2024, at approximately 1:54 PM. The building is owned by Northern Management, LLC.
Firefighters were dispatched following a fire alarm and reports of smoke at the apartment complex. Engine 3, Engine 2, Truck 1, and Ambulance 95 responded with eight personnel, and the Marshfield Police Department assisted at the scene. Upon arrival, residents were evacuating, and smoke was detected in the hallways.
Contact was made with a resident who had discovered their clothes on fire inside a laundry basket. The resident had attempted to extinguish the fire before evacuating. Fire crews quickly contained and extinguished the fire using minimal water.
The fire was determined to have been caused by clothing that had been exposed to cooking oil. After being laundered and dried, the clothes remained in the laundry basket, which led to spontaneous combustion.
No injuries were reported, and the fire caused minimal damage to the apartment and its contents.
